Teenage Boy Arrested Over Roswell Spaceship Theft

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested over the theft of a model spaceship from outside the UFO Museum in Roswell, New Mexico.
Police claim the teen was one of three suspects captured by surveillance cameras stealing the fiberglass and metal model from behind the venue at 3 a.m. on March 19.
Footage shows the three figures hauling the silver flying saucer into a pickup truck. It was found smashed into multiple pieces in a roadside ditch two miles outside the city last week.
“On Saturday morning, we arrested a 17-year-old boy who was one of the three suspects in the theft of the spaceship,” Todd Wildermuth, Roswell police spokesman, told KRQE News 13. “If people have information about that, we want them to call so we can go after these other two as well.”
The model cost $500 when it was first mounted on the museum’s exterior wall in the 1990s. It was damaged in a recent snow storm and was being stored behind the building when it was taken.
The Albuquerque Journal identifies the teenager as Newman Seely. He was arrested for one felony count of larceny and one felony count of conspiracy, and booked into the Chaves County Juvenile Detention Center. “He declined to say anything about the motive for the spaceship theft,” according to police.
Roswell is known for its supposed history of flying saucer activity. A UFO reportedly landed at a ranch northwest of the city in 1947. Known as the “Roswell Incident,” it sparked decades of conspiracy theories.
