World’s Longest Wooden Carving Is A Spectacular Masterpiece Based On Ancient Painting Depicting Life 1,000 Years Ago

It’s incredible what creative people can accomplish with hard work and dedication.

A man spent 4 years working on a wooden carving and the result is a true masterpiece! Not only is it an amazing sculpture, but it’s also the world’s longest continuous wooden sculpture.

The wooden carving is 12.2-meter-long (over 40 ft) and features buildings, trees, mountains, rivers, boats, bridges, clouds, animals, and 550 little hand-carved people. The details are incredible!

It was carved by Chinese artist Zheng Chunhui and it’s made from a single tree trunk. If you have the feeling there is something ancient about it, then you’re absolutely right.

The scene depicts the famous Chinese painting ‘Along the River During the Qingming Festival’ which was created over 1,000 years ago by the great Chinese painter Zhang Zeduan.

The wooden carving is considered of huge historical importance because it depicts the lives of both the rich and the poor during the Qingming Festival.

We can see various animals, flow of rivers along the banks, and tired peasants going home. In Chinese huts there are people, families, somebody is watching from the balcony, over the houses and children play outdoors. This a scene from what life looked like over 1,000 years ago. It’s amazing!

Four years of painstaking work has paid off. Zheng Chunhui’s masterpiece won the Guinness World Record for the longest wooden carving.
