SPACE INVADERS First Brit in space Helen Sharman says she believes in aliens and that they might already be living among us

THE first Brit in space says she believes in aliens — and that they might already be living among us on Earth.

Dr Helen Sharman, who blasted into orbit in 1991, reckons they may be invisible.

The 56-year-old spent eight days at the Mir space station after being chosen from 13,000 who applied to a private British astronaut programme, Project Juno.

Speaking to The Observer, she said: “Aliens exist, there’s no two ways about it.

“There are so many billions of stars out there . . . there must be all sorts of different forms of life.

“Will they be like you and me, made up of carbon and nitrogen? Maybe not.

“It’s possible they’re here now and we can’t see them.”

She added: “People often describe me as the first British woman in space, but I was actually the first British person.”
