Police Scotland draft in help over ‘alien’ symbols in Dumfries and Galloway

There’s something strange going on in the Borders and cops don’t have a Scooby Doo where the marking came from.

A Scottish police force have appealed for help identifying a set of symbols they think may have been left by aliens.

The cops looked to recruit locals in a Facebook post laced with extra-terrestrial patter uploaded yesterday evening.

The odd markings, which appeared in the streets of Thornhill, are variations of a white circle with a line painted through it, some including random numbers.

Officers were left stumped after contacting Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Water, Gas and electricity companies who didn’t have a clue where they came from.

Their post read: “WHAT ARE THESE SYMBOLS?

“Over the last few days these symbols have appeared in the streets of Thornhill, causing a few people to be concerned. We have spoken to Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Water, Gas and electricity companies who all say it has nothing to do with them.

Do any of you know what they are, or are we going to have to put it down to extraterrestrial life finally making contact with us basic earthlings who just don’t understand what they are trying to say?”

Locals reckoned they had the riddle cracked straight away, with many suggesting it might have something to do with new street lighting.

But the force didn’t seem too convinced, replying “seems plausible”  to one person and backing calls to bring in the Men in Black in another comment.

It has not been yet been confirmed if the Borders officers are actually secret UFO spotters. We suspect it may have just been a very slow day at the office.
